Understanding Slides

A PowerPoint presentation is made up of individual slides. As you create your presentation, you can add new slides whenever you need more space for information.

When you add a new slide, you can choose a layout that determines how the content will be arranged on that slide. If you later decide that your presentation would make more sense in a different order, you can rearrange the slides by dragging them to a new position in the slide pane.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Open your PowerPoint presentation.

  2. Select the Home tab.

  3. Click New Slide.

  4. Choose a slide layout from the drop-down menu.

  5. To rearrange your presentation, click and drag a slide in the left panel.

  6. Release the slide where you want it to appear.

Why This Is Useful

As you build a presentation, you may need to add new ideas or change the order of your slides. Being able to add and rearrange slides helps you organize your presentation without having to create it again from the beginning.
