  • Why the slide count is useful while creating and presenting slides

Understanding the Slide Count

The slide count tells you which slide you are currently viewing and how many slides are in your presentation. For example, if PowerPoint displays 2 of 7, you are currently viewing the second slide in a presentation that contains seven slides.

The slide count updates automatically whenever you select a different slide. This makes it easy to keep track of your position while editing or presenting your work.

You can find the slide count in the status bar at the bottom of the PowerPoint window.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Open your PowerPoint presentation.

  2. Look at the bottom-left corner of the PowerPoint window.

  3. Find the slide count in the status bar.

  4. Click a different slide in the slide pane.

  5. Notice that the current slide number updates automatically.

Why This Is Useful

Knowing your current slide number helps you stay organized, especially in longer presentations. It also makes it easier to follow instructions from an instructor or coworker who refers to a specific slide.

If someone says, "Go to slide 12," you can quickly confirm that you are viewing the correct slide.
